Anyone with a fair knowledge of Japanese?
Hello. I'll make this quick. I have one project going on and I need to know the literal translation of the word "Sorachi". I know this is the name of a subprefecture in Japan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorachi_Subprefecture
I am just very curious if it does have any meaning behind it. Thank you all in advance~
5/4/2015 UPDATE: Added preface at the beginning and Inspiration at the end! added some thoughts on some other things I wanted to share.
Alright, so this is a comment and question I've been receiving a lot from people!
How did you improve so fast?
Firstly, I want to say I do not think of myself as a professional artist, teacher or someone who "knows the secret to becoming a master artist". These are just things that I have picked up over the years, and noticed so I thought I might as well share my experience with improvement in effort to help others find their own paths of improvement and learning as artists. There are still many things I ha

At the end of each month the Admins will pick a winner and that person will receive 100:points: and their entry will be placed into the Featured folder.

So I've been thinking about writing this for awhile, and recently I noticed a lot of people are commenting in ways that can make the artist feel uncomfortable.
This journal is about commenting etiquette.
If you comment like this I'm not mad. Please don't feel like im targeting anyone or anything- it's just something I've noticed a ton of people do.

to start out, I'd like to show you some of the types of comments I see A LOT

For Aspiring Artists from H. R. Geiger's Agent
Lots of food for thought in this! I just heard about this and thought I'd share!

Dear Aspiring Artist:
Here is my advice. Think of it as a five-year plan:
Take whatever courses you find the most interesting.
Study closely the work of the Old Masters.
Stop making art that originates only from your own imagination.
Stay with one technique until you perfect it.
On any given day, always be in the middle of reading a book. When you finish one, start the next. Fiction, nonfiction, biographies, autobiographies, history, science, psychology, or how to build a kite. Anything but go easy on the comic books.

Celebrate deviantART's 13th Birthday!
On the day of your birth, you were likely surrounded by those who loved you, who would lead you through the rough first scary years of life, and who would stand by as you grew into a capable person. As time passed, others may have drifted into your life, and even if you didn't know it, they also nurtured and cared for you in much the same way, helping to shape the person you would become.
When a community like deviantART is born, the same common thread binds its originators and founding members together. Over the years, more and more creative beings drift into its life and strengthen its core every single day, resulting in an exponentially in
